Am I An Ideal Candidate For FUT Hair Surgery?
During your consultation for FUT hair surgery in Atlanta, Dr. Killingsworth and his team of hair restoration professionals will review your hair and scalp, medical history, as well as your aesthetic goals to determine if you are an ideal candidate for the procedure. FUT hair transplant surgery can treat hair loss, thinning, and provide thicker hair for patients who aim to achieve maximum fullness. This procedure can restore hair loss caused by a variety of factors, including androgenic alopecia, male pattern baldness, injury, scarring, and more.
The ideal candidate for an FUT hair transplant is in good general health and a non-smoker. Additionally, it is important that patients maintain realistic expectations for the results of their procedure. At Astra Plastic Surgery, we offer hair restoration for patients seeking improved hair density.
What Should I Expect During FUT Hair Surgery?
Before undergoing FUT hair surgery, patients will be administered anesthesia. In most cases, local anesthesia is used to perform this procedure. Once the procedure begins, a strip of healthy hair will be removed from the donor area. This is usually from the back of the head. Once the strip is removed, our surgeons will begin harvesting the hair follicles to be transplanted into the treatment areas. While this is happening, the strip incisions will be closed with sutures.
Once the hair is harvested, our surgeons can begin implanting the follicles into the treatment areas. Using very minimal incisions, the follicles can be implanted with precision. FUT hair surgery can transplant several units in one session. Before the procedure is completed, an antibiotic ointment and surgical dressings will be applied to the donor and treatment areas to minimize the risk of infection.
What Should I Expect After FUT Hair Surgery?
After undergoing FUT hair surgery, patients may experience mild-to-moderate swelling, bleeding, and discomfort. However, these symptoms should subside in the days following the procedure as the scalp continues to heal. Before sending you home following the procedure, Dr. Killingsworth and his team will provide detailed aftercare instructions. It’s important that patients follow these instructions with care to minimize the recovery period and maximize results.
Following the procedure, it is recommended that patients keep their head elevated for at least the first 48 hours to alleviate any swelling and avoid trauma to the area. Additionally, patients should avoid any strenuous activity and allow their body to heal. The donor and treatment areas should be kept clean and dry. If you have any questions during your recovery period, we encourage you to call our office. Our staff is on hand to answer any questions you may have during this time.
